Understanding High-Risk Behaviours (Self-Harm / Suicidal Ideation), and Learning DBT Supportive Strategies

Te Whare Mahana is delighted to announce an amazing opportunity! We will welcome two esteemed DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) specialists from the USA.

Jolie Fritz, a dedicated psychologist, and Erik Ulland, a compassionate psychiatrist, bring with them a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in the field of mental health, specifically self-harm and suicidal ideation. During their time in New Zealand, our staff will engage in enriching training, and we are excited to extend a heartfelt invitation to our local community.

Jolie Fritz (Jo) LPCJo has a Master’s Degree in Community Psychology, and intensive DBT training at the first Linehan Certified Clinic in the USShe was the Lead Therapist at a comprehensive adolescent DBT residential in Wisconsin.  Training and supervision, comprehensive outpatient practice with The DBT Center of Greater Washington.  Co-creator and co-host of the international DBT podcast "All Therapists Are Jerks." She works with individuals, families and the community to reduce stigma,  increase understanding, and empower individuals to communicate and create meaningful change.
Erik Ulland, MDChild & adolescent psychiatrist with 20 years of experience. Medical Director of inpatient psychiatry. Creator of comprehensive adolescent DBT residential. Medical Director of DBT Services in the same system. 15 years experience of care treating clients with eating disorders, severe anxiety disorders, self-destructive and suicidal behaviors, ADHD, OCD, trauma, personality and substance use disorders. He values educating others and empowering them to make changes that improve their quality of life and finds DBT the most effective modality. Co-creator of the international DBT podcast “All Therapists Are Jerks."

This workshop is open to EVERYONE, including dedicated professionals working with adults and youth, as well as whanau and all individuals interested in learning effective strategies for addressing self-harm and suicidal ideation. We encourage you to share this invaluable opportunity with community members who could benefit from these crucial skills.

This past year has presented our community with significant challenges, marked by a troubling number of suicides and instances of high-risk behaviour. We aspire for this training to serve as a beacon of hope and healing, contributing positively to the mental well-being of our beloved Mohua.
